Parents, if you have a few minutes please take the time to watch this awesome video. Bellingham is an educator of 20 years and speaks so well to how children really learn to read, think and communicate. I love the way she describes reading aloud to children and explains the numerous benefits in doing so! It's definitely worth the time! :)

As readers we have been reading informational text about patriotic symbols among other topics. Today we learned that maps and charts are important text features that can help us understand the topic more deeply. The students had to read an informational text and find either a map or a chart in their book. During share time, they told their partners how it helped them learn something new! As apart of our final part of our Foxes Foray unit, students had a class debate where they had to state their opinion, give strong and powerful reasons for their opinions and provide a closing argument. Overall most children said that the fox was an evil character in most of the folktales that we read together. I was impressed with their ability to take turns, listen, respond to one another and construct powerful arguments with strong evidence!
In our most recent unit the Foxes Foray, we have studied the genre of Folktales in depth. Students ot to take on the task of comparing and contrasting two different versions of the same folktales in partnerships. They were very proud of the work that they did, as was I! |
