New York Times Award Winning Author & Illustrator Brian Lies, Author of Bats at the Beach and many other bat books came to visit the HBB today! He talked to our young writers about what it's like to write and publish a real story, to always go back and change and edit your work and that practice makes BETTER! Students loved Mr. Lies, and were amazed (as well as teachers) by his incredible artistic ability, as he drew us our very own bat! It was a wonderful learning experience and so cool for our students to see where hard work and effort can take you!

On Monday and Tuesday during Math this week, we became math detectives and used our SUPER math strategies to find the missing number! Students had to flip their cups over, count and record the counters outside the cup and figure out how many were hiding inside their cups, based on the information we already knew! Check out these pictures of the students from Room 28 working hard! Case closed! :) Our focus lesson from Wednesday during Reader's Workshop was all about how good readers think during reading! Students were jotting their thinking on sticky notes today during Independent Reading. They were working so hard- I had to capture the moment to share with you! :) We're off to a great start this school year! Happy first day of first grade! It was a wonderful day! Our students looked very professional and had a great day today on Career Day! We spent today talking about Community Helpers in Middleboro, and what we want to be when we grow up! |
